DOES HE BELONG WITH THE BIG BOYS? JOSESITO LOPEZ SAYS YES!
We’ll Find Out For Sure On ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights”
Friday, Aug. 13, at Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, Calif.
Ontario, CA – Riverside’s own Josesito Lopez (26-3, 15 KOs) is focused on climbing to the next level on Friday against Colorado amateur legend Marvin “Much Too Much” Cordova, Jr. (21-1-1, 11 KO’s) in an 8-round welterweight bout.
Lopez’s challenge is in form of the 25 year-old seasoned Cordova, Jr., who began boxing at the age of 6 and had more than 240 bouts before making his decision to turn pro in 2004. In early 2007, Cordova, Jr. faced top prospect Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KOs) and it ended in a technical draw.
“I’ve been training hard for this fight,” said Lopez who shares his trainer, Henry Ramirez, with Chris Arreola. “I have been sparring with 2-time IBF lightweight world champion, Julio Diaz and have steadily made a 180 mile round trip to Indio for those intense sparring sessions.”
Lopez looks to include his name with the likes of Devon Alexander, Amir Khan, Michael Dallas Jr. and stable mate Timothy Bradley, Jr. with a eye-opening victory.
The Lopez-Cordova, Jr. 8-round bout will air as the opening bout on ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” prior to the main event between Arreola-Quezada in their heavyweight battle for the WBC Mexican National Championship.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with the Lopez-Cordova, Jr. fight set at 6 p.m. The main event is slated for 7:15 p.m.
The event is presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and sponsored by Soboba Casino.
