Roy Englebrecht Promotions Names New Matchmaker
Newport Beach, CA: Roy Englebrecht today announced that Whitfield Haydon will assume the position of Director of Fighter Relations & Matchmaker for Roy Englebrecht Promotions, replacing current REP matchmaker Arnold Berber. Berber will return to school as he looks to enter the medical research field.
“I am very grateful to Arnold for the four years he has been with me,” said Englebrecht. “He started as my DJ at the Battle In The Ballroom shows and for the last three years has done an outstanding job of not only matchmaking for my boxing shows, but also learned the mixed martial arts business to also have success there. But I know that Arnold’s passion is in medical research, so I am just thankful to have had him for this long.”
“I thank Roy for teaching me the promotions business and moving up in the company, from beginning to end,” stated Berber. “To work alongside Roy for the past four years has allowed me to meet and work with some great people, it has been quite a ride!”
In Haydon, Englebrecht will get a person who has deep Orange County roots, not only in boxing but in sports in general. He was a standout baseball player at Servite High School and Fullerton College, and holds a degree from Cal State Fullerton. Over the past 10 years Haydon has been involved in boxing as a manager, a short stint as a promoter, and most recently as a fight booker.
“To be part of a successful fight promotions company and get to work for a man that I have admired for so long is very fulfilling,” said Haydon. “If you are a boxing fan in Southern California, you would have to know that the Battle In The Ballroom shows are a integral part of boxing lore in this area much like The Forum or the Olympic Auditorium, not only because of the longevity of the show but due to its continually expanding success as well. It’s a machine and a very well-oiled one at that.”
Haydon will get busy quickly over the next two months, as Roy Englebrecht Promotions has a September 15th Televisa show at the Las Vegas Hilton featuring two IBO World Title bouts, an October 16th show at the Silverton Casino & Lodge in Las Vegas, and the October 28th Battle In The Ballroom show.
