Brokenshire Defends Featherweight Title in Front of a Sold out EQC
Tacoma, WA (February 9th, 2014) – CageSport MMA rocked Tacoma once again last night; featuring ten world class professional cage fights including fan favorite, Drew Brokenshire, defending his highly coveted featherweight title once again in the main event versus Talon Hofman. In the semi-main event, Yakima’s Julian Erosa also secured a big victory, defeating Olympia’s Mike Joy via second round TKO.
A sold out 1900 seat Emerald Queen Casino showroom was on hand to witness the action packed CageSport card that had fans buzzing all night. Reagan Benedetti, who won her first professional MMA bout with a second round arm triangle choke, had the most impressive fan base of the night who all became ecstatic in support of Benedetti when her name was announced as the winner.
The main event featured a gritty battle between CageSport featherweight champion, Drew Brokenshire, and four time high school state wrestling champion, Talon Hofman. With his wrestling background, Hofman was determined to keep the fight on the ground and succeeded in doing so. Brokenshire showed his versatility once again as he was able to evenly grapple with Hofman in a fight that featured a war for ground position. Momentum leaned towards Brokenshire at the conclusion of two rounds and midway through the third round, Brokenshire again reversed position on the ground to gain back control and instantly submitted Hofman via rear naked choke. The victory improves Brokenshire’s record to 9-1 and puts him on a five fight win streak.
In the semi-main event, Julian Erosa took on Mike Joy in a critical fight to regain momentum for Erosa after a tough decision loss to Lee Morrison in July. Both fighters went into the fight with opposite game plans with Joy determined to keep the fight on the ground and Erosa adamant about keeping the fight standing. Joy attempted numerous unsuccessful takedowns throughout first round, but Erosa showed good takedown defense and took the first round the advantage in striking. Midway through the second round Erosa pinned joy in the corner of the cage and connected with a flush knee to the head that stunned and dropped Joy followed by a quick ground and pound by Erosa that Joy couldn’t defend. At the 2:28 mark of the second round, Joy’s corner threw in the towel giving Erosa the second round TKO victory.
The undercard featured some of the most premier MMA fighters from around the northwest including an impressive victory by Paul Njoku who took the fight on only one day notice.
