Captain Huck warming up for Godfrey in German heat
WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck (29-1, 22 KOs) caught up with the German media yesterday as he continues his preparation for his clash with Matt Godfrey (20-1, 10 KOs). The duo will battle it out in Erfurt on August 21, which will be Huck´s fourth title defense. “Despite the hot weather in Germany we have been working really hard in practice,” Huck said. “My trainer Ulli Wegner has scheduled a lot of exhausting sessions. Fighting in Erfurt will be special for him because he lived there for a long time. So I intend to put on a spectacular performance on August 21 to please him and of course my fans all over the world. Godfrey is a tough challenger, but he has never been inside the ring with someone like me. I am the best cruiserweight in the world and I am keen to prove it once again.”
Huck and Wegner have been working out at Team Sauerland´s headquarters in Berlin. The Max-Schmeling-Gym is located right next to the Olympic Stadium. At the end of the month, they will move camp to Kienbaum, 20 miles east of the capital. “My fighters know that I am a very demanding coach,” Wegner said. “Marco is doing very well in practice. He does what I ask of him. He is willing to learn and to improve. He is such an explosive and powerful fighter, but there are still some parts of the game where he can get better. We are working on that and are already looking forward to August 21.”
