PRESIDENT LEWIS REED TO HOST WORLD CHAMPION DEVON
ALEXANDER HOMECOMING CELEBRATION AT CITY HALL
ST. LOUIS – St. Louis President of the Board of Aldermen Lewis Reed
joined by Cedric the Entertainer and Eric Rhone will host World Champion Devon
Alexander’s Homecoming Celebration, sponsored by Scottrade Center, Lumiere Place
and Ozzie’s Restaurant & Sports Bar. The event is an appreciation party for St. Louis’
own Devon Alexander and also the kick off to “Fight Week” for Alexander’s next
fight against former champion Andriy Kotelnik on August 7th at the Scottrade Center.
“I wanted to recognize Devon because he is an inspiration for our community,
especially our children.” Reed stated, “His rise in the boxing ranks is a great
example of how hard work pays off. He has been led to success by his trainer and
manager, Kevin Cunningham, and Devon, in turn has become a great role model
himself and always represents St. Louis positively on the national stage.”
The event will take place on August 1, 2010 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at City Hall and
is open to the general public for free. Appropriate attire is required and tennis shoes, t-
shirts and baseball caps are prohibited.
A star-studded group has lined up to attend the event including boxing promoter Don
King, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, T-LUV and many other surprise guests. Tony Scott of Majic
104.9 will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
The event will include musical performances by Dwayne Bosman of the Bosman
Twins, Bradd Young, Yung Ro and Wild Bill Young along with various congratulatory
presentations on stage for Devon Alexander. Devon along with other sponsors and hosts
will present a check to St. Louis City youth boxing with the proceeds from the event.
These donations will help support the youth of St. Louis to become positive leaders in our
community and continue the long tradition of premiere boxers from the St. Louis region.
Devon Alexander started his amateur boxing career in the Hyde Park Neighborhood in
